Prologue

It was cold. She was running forward, the cold wind whipping at her bare skin and her dress blowing behind her. The man caught up, but she ran faster yet. The footsteps behind her stop and suddenly all that filled the air was her rapid heartbeat, her ragged breathing, and the patter of her bare feet against the concrete.
