Storms and earthquakes have changed old ways of living forever. A stranger on horseback gallops into a treehouse village called Sassamatta Grove, searching for Sarah Spellings. His name is Charlie Crow. He comes from the Cariboo, a land of grassy inland plains over the Coast Mountains. Charlie has heard stories about Sarah's powers, and he needs her help - his people are under siege by a gang of thieves called the Cariboo Posse.

Sarah and her friends set out on a mission to help Charlie, but the task is complicated by Slickers, desperadoes who gather outlawed fuel. As Sarah and her friends close in on the Posse, they enter the shadow of a crime much worse than stolen goods.
