there are three things outsiders knew about Langford Prep:
1. It's very expensive. Like daddy's and grandpappy's and great grandpappy's money expensive.
2. There are two separate schools for the girls and the boys.
3. If you got in on scholarship, you had either a good sob story, a god given talent, or an IQ higher than 155.
Cassie had always been at the top of her public school. Everything came easy: math, english, science, art, history. One time her history teacher had it out for her and gave her a 98 in the class by taking away some of her participation grade. Easy to say: everyone hated her. The person second in her class despised her and would start rumors about her sleeping with teachers all the time.
So when she was approached by a slightly snobby looking lady at her art show, who wanted her to apply to Langford Prep on scholarship, she ran with it.
Things outsiders don't know about Langford Prep:
1. Instead of cliques, there are secret societies that have a fee to pay to join in efforts to exclude the scholarship students.
2. A scholarship student was killed last year, Allie Cooper. The student body was told she took illegal substances and drowned in the nearby lake.
3. There are 12 scholarship students per grade. Out of 200, 12 spots and they would be filled even if the student left-or died. Cassie would be filling in Allie's spot.
