"You're shaking," he whispered. I looked down at my hands to realize it was true. I pressed them together in a feeble attempt to stifle any show of weakness. "Are you scared of me?" he asked, his voice soft with an undertone of steel. I found that I couldn't answer. Not because the vines were covering my mouth, but because either response had emotional baggage that I wasn't ready to deal with. I just want to go back to normal, but I don't know if that's possible anymore. Not with Tristian and Jen being the way they are. Not to mention all the things I'd have to unsee. Our normal before was boring and mundane, our normal today is wild and dangerous. Sometimes I wish for mundane. Sometimes I wish for danger. It's hard to tell which I want more.
