At My Daddy's House follows Kamari Weston, a quiet, observant Black girl who moves from Florida to Atlanta with her father as he relocates for work. Together, they start over in a new city, and Kamari slowly finds herself pulled into a world that feels both unfamiliar and deeply rooted in family.
As she reconnects with cousins, extended family, and builds new friendships, Kamari begins to experience Atlanta through everyday life, the beauty of Black Southern culture, and the small, ordinary pieces of life that happen in between. While adjusting to two homes and navigating new connections, she learns how much can shift when you're no longer just watching life, but actually living inside of it.
At its heart, the story is about Kamari coming into herself in a world that doesn't always notice quiet Black girls. It explores identity, love, and belonging in the Black South while following her journey toward self-acceptance-learning that her softness, her silence, and her way of moving through life are not things to outgrow, but things to understand and embrace.
