Setting: 2004, Hayview Elementary School, Mrs. Garett's 1st Grade classroom ____________________________________ "Children! Children! Calm down! I know you're all excited about the first day of school, but I still need to take roll! Okay when I call your name, make sure you raise your hand. If I pronounce your name wrong please correct me. Okay, Harold Anderson?, Beatrice Collins?, Pat Denny?, ... Rooksayna .... Fahruck?" The whole class erupted in laughter as I looked down embarrassed. Great just great, now no matter how many Gulab Jamuns Ama makes when I get home, it still wont be able to fix my mood. "Its Rukhsana Farooq ... but you can call call me Shano." • • • Finally! Its lunch time and I only have an hour left of this horrible day left! I can't wait to get home. Just then a boy from class walked up to me. He had big light brown eyes and black hair. I tried to remember his name but soon quit trying. "Hey, I think you're pretty cool. My name is Yousef Bin Zardari. Lets be friends?" Something about this guy made me feel like he was very trustworthy. So I agreed to this friendship. Turns out he was the only good thing that came from my horrible first day. Who knew it could all go so wrong?
