In the year 20**, a taxonomist by the name of REDACTED] discovered a new carnivorous parasitic species mainly carried by migratory birds located in Mississippi's De Soto National Forest. Believing the species to be fairly new and small, they paid it little mind. Now, however, an evolutionary leap - seemingly man-made - has caused the species, nicknamed "Skitters", to begin taking human hosts. Mutations occur, turning humans into monsters, zombies, and other such things. The results appear different to everyone. Fortunately, as Travis, or "SlackJaw", has determined, the parasites can be removed. They have a weakness, they must've if he had been rid of it- but to what? Follow the journey of Travis "SlackJaw" Stillman- a survivor of the parasite, Emmie-Travis's service dog in training with a prosthetic leg, and Henry "MaceFace" Raith- a man whose face was disfigured in a battle with a Skitter Mother, as they navigate through the treacherous Mississippi wilderness in search of answers, though the answers they find may be more than they were ready for.
