When twenty-four year-old Ri Jeong Hyeok met Yoon Se Ri one fateful day in Switzerland, sparks flew. The winter fling that should have lasted for two weeks went on longer than planned, spanning two years of coded correspondences and secret meetings. But as time passed by, the reality of their ill-fated romance began to set in and they are forced to make a decision to either settle for a convenient life in their respective sides of the 38th parallel or chase for a bittersweet ending beyond their borders. Oh - and by the way, the biggest twist of fate here is that he was from the South and she was from the North.

"Next year, the year after that, and even the one after that will all be good. Because I'll be thinking about you. I'll be grateful that you were born into this world. I'll be grateful that the person I love is still breathing. That's why your birthday will always be a good day." Se-ri and her birthdays with - or without - Jeong-hyeok.

"You shouldn't look so happy, Yoon Se-ri," Se-ri said to herself. "This is a big deal. You are in serious trouble." Unabashed, her face continued to express idiotic joy. "This is fate," it said back to her. After the end of the series, Se-ri makes a discovery that threatens to overturn her and Jeong-hyeok's lives, leading to hard decisions for them both.
