In the beta test of the virtual reality game AstralRealm, 100,000 players, including Alex, become trapped, with death in the game meaning death in real life. In the end, he and four others face the final boss. They all fall, except Alex, who defeats the boss and frees everyone. In a twist, it turns out that the "dead" players were just in comas and begin to wake up as the game ends. However it seems the planet he once knew is starting to change and not for the better.
