Fleeing his role as enforcer for a powerful New York crime syndicate, Jake Berrenger chased reinvention as an actor in Los Angeles. Hollywood crushed his dreams, driving him back to NYC to scrape by as a low-rent private investigator. His fragile new life takes a dangerous turn when Charlene Summers hires him. Her father, renowned conservation biologist Dr. Henry Summers, was murdered-and the authorities are eager to sweep it under the rug. Charlene needs to know the truth. Delving into Dr. Summers final days, Jake and Charlene expose a ruthless corporate conspiracy. Pharmaceutical CEO Reuben Block is poised to unleash a revolutionary longevity drug. To produce it, his empire operates a global syndicate illegally harvesting a rare, CITES-protected plant in Ecuador. As the investigation deepens, Jake and Charlene discover that the associated crime network is global, spanning continents, cultures, industries and personalities. Together they make a chilling discovery: Block's criminal network is the very syndicate-Jake's own family-that he fled years ago.

In the shadowy woods of New York, a weekend retreat becomes a fight for survival, and the line between captor and savior begins to blur. Dr. Lexi Branson thought she'd left high-stakes danger behind when she retired from the Navy. Now a respected civilian anesthesiologist, her life is divided between her high-pressure job in Manhattan and the peaceful solitude of her weekend cabin. But that peace is shattered when a curious walk down a dirt road leads her to witness something she shouldn't: a clandestine operation run by a crew of ruthless criminals. When Lexi is taken, her life becomes a bargaining chip in a multi-million dollar heist targeting Manhattan's legendary Diamond District. Her medical credentials and calm demeanor make her the perfect, unwilling decoy. Isolated and terrified, her only point of contact is Julian, the enigmatic and strikingly attractive member of the crew tasked with guarding her. He's her jailer. He's also the only thing standing between her and the volatile tempers of his partners. As the clock ticks down to the heist, a dangerous and unexpected connection forms between them. Lexi sees a flicker of conscience behind Julian's cold professionalism, a humanity that doesn't fit the profile of a hardened felon. Against her own judgment and every survival instinct, she finds herself drawn to him. But in a world built on lies, can she trust her heart? Or is his kindness just another layer of an elaborate deception? As the stakes escalate and the heist unfolds, Lexi is forced to question everything she believes about good and evil, love and loyalty, and the shocking truth that could save her life-or destroy it completely.

To keep myself from losing track of: all the 2025 contests I've entered, all the 2025 contests I've volunteered myself as a judge (or let myself be volun-told into judging), all the 2025 books I've had to read as a contestant or as a judge, all the 2025 deadlines, and all the other important stuff, here is a book that registers all these 2025 things in a somewhat organized fashion. With occasional commentary. Nota bene: Although other people are welcome to browse my public contest logs and look for contests, look for information about details of contests (i.e. you want me to pour you some tea), etc, these contest logs are primarily for my own use. I enter so many contests that I can't keep track of them without a log. I forget important details, too, including things like "Note to self: You do not get along with this contest host, best not participate in their contests." Like my 2024 contest log, this was never meant to be an "expose" book. I'm not exposing anybody. Contests are matters of public record, as are any comments made in the contest books. I'm just a ditz who needs a written log to keep track of everything. I would lose my head if it wasn't attached to my shoulders. I DO NOT CONSENT TO MY POETRY AND PROSE BEING USED TO TRAIN ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
