When sixteen-year-old Olive "O" walks into school and sees Desmond, her heart does something dangerous-it remembers. It's been a year since he cut her out of his life without explanation, citing only a vague "family obligation" that made no sense. Now a fire on the reservation has forced Desmond and the other Native students to transfer to her school, and suddenly he's everywhere-those dark eyes, that infuriating smirk, acting like they're still friends. Like he didn't shatter their friendship without warning. Like she didn't spend months wondering what she'd done wrong. But Olive's not that girl anymore. She's learned to keep her distance, to protect herself. Except Desmond won't let her. He insists he had no choice, that he never meant to hurt her-but he won't tell her why he left. And as strange things start happening around town, as Desmond disappears on moonlit nights and returns with secrets in his eyes, Olive begins to suspect his reasons for leaving run deeper and darker than she ever imagined. Some family obligations come with claws. And some truths are dangerous enough to destroy everything-including a second chance at first love. _______________________________ Book cover created by KiKi Fulton Image: Crazy Monday Studio/Canva

When school teacher Charlotte Hayes stakes her claim in the Oklahoma Land Rush of 1889, she's chasing more than just a plot of land-she's racing toward her dream of building a legacy of learning in the wild territory. Armed with determination, a handful of books, and unwavering hope, she never expected her greatest challenge would come wearing a U.S. Marshal's badge. Marshal Daniel Hawkins has seen enough of human nature to know that boom towns attract trouble like honey draws flies. Keeping order among fifty thousand desperate settlers is hard enough without the distraction of a spirited teacher whose stubborn independence both irritates and intrigues him. But when her makeshift schoolhouse becomes a target for those who'd rather see the territory remain wild, Daniel finds himself fighting not just for law and order, but for the future they could build together. As Oklahoma Territory rises from the prairie dust, Charlotte and Daniel must navigate between duty and desire, between the law of the land and the calling of their hearts. In this untamed territory, they'll discover that the greatest claims aren't staked on land, but on the heart.

As the ROM Youth Cabinet, we completed our Wattpad writings with the support of Indigenous community members: Embodied Storyteller Monique Mojica; Artistic Director of Chocolate Woman Collective from the Kuna and Rappahannock Nations, Anishinaabeg Knowledge Keeper/Storyteller Ernie Sandy; and with editing support from Cree/Metis Writer Tyler Pennock. We had multiple writing sessions and experiences to assist in sparking our imagination during their project, including a writing retreat on the land at Colborne Lodge in High Park. Our writings were inspired by objects in the Royal Ontario Museum's Indigenous collections, as well as our experiences in the First Peoples Gallery and with the Youth Cabinet. The stories and poems are read by Youth Cabinet members. We hope you enjoy!

She introduced her to The Cherokee Wind Clan where their medicine woman encouraged her to embrace the visions she'd always thought a curse. Her world abruptly changed the moment Mel Thornton heard her sing. Taken against her will, Rose grew up quickly in the Lying Buck Saloon. Forced to entertain, she longed for the days she could escape and return home. Grey Two-Bears Aspen never forgot the beautiful young woman and the electrical connection they shared when one of her visions saved his brother. Even after all these years, he never gave up hope. As a lawman, continuing to search the southwest corners of North Carolina only made sense. However, he never considered he'd find her singing in a seedy saloon. Can Rose find the strength she needs to fight the past and the horrible truths she discovers, to have a future with Grey, fulfilling a rose's promise of hope and new beginnings?
