If you'd told Y/N a year ago that she'd be spending the rest of high school in a city where people ate beans for breakfast unironically, she would've laughed and then probably cried. But here she was, standing in the kitchen of a house that smelled like dust and stale aftershave, watching her dad pour whiskey into his coffee at 10AM on a Tuesday like it was the most normal thing in the world. But maybe, just maybe, Sheffield wasn't going to be the complete disaster she'd anticipated.

Crazy. He was crazy. While sharing the mic during the song 'Standing Next to Me' Alex had drunkenly kissed Miles Kane. The audience watched the sloppy kiss in astonishment. Realizing what he had done, Alex flushed in embarrassment and ran off stage. Will he and Miles be able to keep this secret love private?

On a lunar hotel built for ghosts of fame, two rockstars orbit each other like doomed satellites. Miles still plays like it means something. Alex writes songs about things he swears he's forgotten. Tranquillity Base Hotel and Casino, one of the worlds largest and most luxurious hotels ever built in history, owned by an unbelievably young man, or so they say. There has never been any real sightings or encounters with the mysterious owner of this vast hotel, only stories, stories that have just been told in the dark desolated spaces of peoples empty bedrooms. That isn't the only obscure thing about this hotel though; it takes pure luck to get in a reservation at this place, you don't even get to choose how long you stay, they decide for you. There is more than meets the eye to this hotel and the mystery behind it though, and only one overly determined person can figure that out, and that person is Violet Hale.

It's 1993, and seven year old Miles Kane is having a tough time of it. His parents' recent divorce is making him feel mixed up and angry, causing him to misbehave. A school trip to see The Opal, an 18th century sailing ship that has come to Liverpool, should be a source of excitement, but alas Miles gets into trouble before he can even step aboard, and he is sent to cool down in a coach designated for troubled children. He encounters a funny-looking little boy being bullied by bigger boys and he feels compelled to speak to him. He discovers his new little friend is called Alex Turner and has come from a school in Sheffield. He's too scared to go on board the ship and has been left alone by his friends. Miles can't explain it in his young brain, but it feels like him and Alex have been friends forever. Alex's fear spurs Miles to be brave and they decide to go onto the boat together. Both little boys are blown away by the huge ship. Miles weirdly feels as though he has been on it before, and when they visit the captain's quarters, they get a huge surprise. Alex and Miles bond instantly, and when the time comes for them to be parted, Miles looks for any excuse to be allowed to go to Sheffield. Alex needs him, and life just wouldn't seem right if Miles wasn't there to look after him.
