At the start of 4th Year, Amelia has quite the crush on Cedric Diggory and someone else happens to have that same sized crush, but on her. Mattheo. For years he ignored her just like she did but over time, he can't help but start to feel attached to the girl he barely speaks with. Over time, he tries to make her realize it's him she likes and not Cedric, but he doesn't even know what he's doing, and often he makes things worse.
