Last week, someone decided that the best comment they could make on one of my stories was to write "Read my new teen fiction if ur a 1d/5sos fan" (sic. And I really do mean 'sic'). I replied that I didn't really like either group, but if she wanted to write a "Madama Butterfly" fic where Pinkerton gets his comeuppance, I would happily read it. I further suggested that Suzuki could track Pinkerton down to exact revenge. It would have been an awesome tale of adventure, deceit, and revenge.
This is not that story. This is what happened when I tried to write that story and things went in a . . . slightly different direction.
A few warnings:
First of all, this story does give away the ending to "Madama Butterfly". I don't want to hear you come complaining to me if you didn't want to know how it ends.
Secondly, "Madama Butterfly" was written in the first decade of the 20th century, and has some . . . unfortunate racial implications. It's still awesome, but be aware.
Thirdly, this is based on an opera. And it's about revenge. Expect references to adultery, bigamy, suicide, violence, and plenty of lies. Also, for those who haven't seen the opera, the American sailor is the bad guy.
