Jake's computer died today. Or it might have been yesterday, he can't be sure. The cafe's clock just struck 7:00 and it's still (already?) dark outside. That doesn't mean shit, it might already be tomorrow. The keyboard is covered in coffee, dripping onto his bag and his pants. It is the blood that has been running in his veins for the last 24 hours, splattered onto his hands, nose and lips. The light slowly leaves his laptop, who in one last effort blinks in blue with a sad emoji and its last words; 'your PC ran into a problem that it couldn't handle.' The entire café has gone silent, or what must be at most 5 people. The only thing that he can hear is his ears ringing, his mouth opening in a silent cry. That's his entire 100k words novel's manuscript lost with no existing backup. The one he spent the last week, and most especially the last 48 hours finishing. The one due today. (Or: Jake has been crushing on his local barista for a(n embarrassing) while now. (If you listen to Riki.)
