Maria Isabel Cases vê-se obrigada a abandonar sua terra, seu país, sua amada pátria, o Brasil devido a problemas financeiros e embarcar em uma longa e exaustiva viagem rumo a Coréia com sua família. Lá, o planejado será que a família Cases hospede-se na casa da família Min até conseguirem casa, empregos e o domínio do idioma. A matriarca dos Min, no passado, antes de casar-se, hospedou-se com os Cases e não pestanejou em responder positivamente a carta com o pedido de hospedagem de que lhe fora enviada. Os Min são ricos. Os Cases não mais Min Yoongi, um dos herdeiros da família, apaixona-se por Maria Isabel, mas, disfarça esse amor tratando-a da pior maneira passível. Maria Isabel também passa a gostar de Yoongi.
