When I personally play mass effect, I can't choose between playing the male or female Shepard. both are great voice actors in every way. Eventually (this morning) I thought: "What if there were two Shepard's? and what if they were twins?"

I finished the series for the 800th time, and, as usual, was disappointed with the ending, and the only way to get the possibilities to stop bouncing around my head was to give them life. I am only posting them here in hopes it can quelm the disappointment in like-minded fans. I have no rights to bioware's characters or the universe they live in. A fic that takes place relatively shortly after the events of Mass Effect 3. Finally tired of collecting psychological trauma, Shepard retires to a quiet, civilian life. However, fitting the job description a little too perfectly, she and Garrus are withdrawn from their leave and appointed to an interspecies special task force. After a colony's unexplained disappearance leaves behind a horrific scene, the crew of the Normandy is faced with hunting down a cosmic horror and solving the mystery of the Ardat-Yakshi.

This story will dive deep into the love between Garrus Vakarian and Layla Shepard. Their relationship was strong and because of that Garrus never got over Layla's death. But one dream lit the spark of hope inside him again. This story will follow Garrus in his quest to find what really happened to his loved one.

So it's been a year since I finished the Mass Effect trilogy and I found this unfinished fanfic I had in my drafts about that *ehem* ending. I figured, hey, why not finish it? I mean, I can still feel the pain that game stabbed in my heart, so maybe finishing and publishing a fanfic about it can fill the void. Here goes nothing. Enjoy! - MASS EFFECT FANFICTION. FEMSHEP. Shepard recollecting her remaining thoughts and memories, thumbing through them with what little time she has left lying on the cold rigged ground of earth left beyond the remaining ruble of the crucible and whatever else it brought down with it. Thinking straight was impossible and she was only confused and stuck between whether she was dead or alive but nonetheless that wouldn't stop her from spending her last moments thinking about Liara and she really thought upon herself. Ready to accept this innovation of life and descend into the death she derserves.

Post destroy, Shepard and Garrus have to begin a new life... From scratch. (Not related to mass effect relays, this is not a prequel) After destroying the reapers, Shepard wakes up in a hospital room, where she recovered from her injuries, only to discover: 1.she's suffering from partial amnesia and 2. the world she saved is still as broken as she is: stranded aliens, the council based on earth and one of her friends possibly plotting to betray her. Already that peace has grown brittle and the need for a hero seems imminent. Shepherd's gone, and she isn't coming back. Who else is there who can do the impossible?
