Frequently asked questions from readers

What is the Paid Stories program?

Wattpad Paid Stories is a program that makes it possible for writers to earn money for their work, while providing readers with a way to monetarily support writers on Wattpad.

Paid Stories are a response to users across the Wattpad community asking for ways to support the writers who create the stories they love. Readers can purchase Coins that can then be used to unlock chapters or full stories that are part of the program.

Why did we introduce Paid Stories?

Writers create the stories that make Wattpad the best place to read unique stories. For years, Wattpadders have cheered on, and supported writers, through votes, supportive comments, watching their TV series adaptations, and taking their books to the best-seller lists when they are published.

Wattpad readers have asked for a way to show their gratitude to writers financially, directly on Wattpad. Paid Stories is a way to monetarily support writers for the gems they share on Wattpad.

Our goal is to help writers progress in their careers and help them get funding for their work.

What countries are stories in the Paid Stories program available in?

Paid Stories are currently available to readers all over the world. If you are unable to read a Paid Story we recommend updating the version of your Wattpad app.

Does this mean that Wattpad is becoming a paid platform?

A small selection of stories are exclusively available for purchase within the Paid Stories program.

Paid Stories is meant to give readers a new way to support their favorite writers. The Coins will help give writers the independence to spend more time working on their next story so it can get to you that much faster.

How do I purchase stories?

Stories are purchased using Coins. These can be purchased on the Wattpad app, and will be paid for through your Apple or Google Play account. Learn how to add Coins to your account here.

Can I read stories on any device?

You can read Paid Stories anywhere you usually use Wattpad. Once you’ve used your Coins to unlock Paid Stories chapters or stories, you can read them just like all your other Wattpad stories.

I don’t want to get invested in a story I’m going to have to pay for - how do I know what stories I have to pay to read, and which I can continue reading for free?

It’s easy. All Paid Stories will have a ‘Paid Story’ badge on the story profile.

I don’t want to pay for a story I’m not sure I am interested in. How will I know if I like a Paid Story?

You don’t need to pay right away. All Paid Stories will have several free chapters to preview before you need to use Coins to unlock the rest of the story.

How does Wattpad choose which stories are included in the program and which stories are available for free reading?

We know all Wattpadders want to support their favorite writers. And, Wattpad is certainly home to many great writers. We selected strong, well-crafted, unique stories that represent your diverse range of voices, genres, and styles for Paid Stories. The program was built to be as inclusive as Wattpad. Using data and human insight, Paid Stories plans to highlight some of the best writers Wattpad has to offer.

We know the community wants to be able to support and reward their favorite writers, and Paid Stories allows them to do just that.

Why am I seeing US pricing outside of the US?

For many countries the price of Coins is determined by the price of Coins in the US. The price is directly linked to the US Coin packages, and localized currency is not available in the App Store or Google Play. When purchasing in USD, you will see the purchase confirmation in the Wattpad app in USD and be charged in your local currency.

Why aren’t stories available in my local language?

There are plans to add additional languages to the program in the future.

At the moment Paid Stories are available in English, Spanish and Tagalog. When expanding the program it’s important for our team to provide the appropriate resources for our writers and readers. This includes Editorial Coaches to select stories that are a good fit and can support writers in the program.
