Carmen Lopez has always been good at keeping things professional. She's a detective, Angela Lopez's younger sister, and one of the people at Mid-Wilshire who seems impossible to rattle. Then Lucy Chen arrives. Lucy is determined to prove herself as a rookie. Carmen is determined to keep teasing her. Somewhere between late-night conversations, sarcastic remarks, lingering looks and stolen moments at the station, something neither of them expected begins to develop. But there is one problem. Everyone at Mid-Wilshire knows Carmen. And everyone knows Angela. Keeping anything from Angela Lopez is practically impossible. As Carmen and Lucy grow closer, their colleagues start noticing the looks, the flirting and the suspiciously perfect timing. Nyla is convinced she knows exactly what's happening. Angela is determined to figure it out. Tim is just trying to survive the chaos. And Carmen? She's already falling. What starts as harmless flirting slowly becomes something neither of them can ignore. Because sometimes the person you least expect becomes the one person you can't stop looking for. Lucy Chen is a teacher. Being a teacher has been her dream job since she was very young. Her classroom is her safe space, and she cares deeply for all of her students-especially Tim Bradford's daughter, who quickly became one of her favourites. Lucy had heard plenty about the intimidating, overworked single dad from Genny, but she has never actually met him. Lucy Chen and Genny Bradford have become quite good friends regarding all of this. Tim Bradford never expected to be raising his daughter - Maeve Bradford - alone. After his marriage with Isabel ruptured due to her drug addiction, Tim had to fight a tough and challenging situation to gain full custody of his little girl. Tim stayed determined to give Maeve the stable life she deserved. Between long shifts as sergeant at mid-Wilshire station and the constant pressure of playing both roles as mother and father, Tim barely had time to breathe, relying intensely on his sister, Genny, to help him out with school runs.

Tim Bradford doesn't believe in distractions - which is exactly why Sergeant Lucy Chen is becoming one. She transfers in polished, composed, and entirely unimpressed by his reputation, meeting every dry remark with a steadier one of her own. He doesn't go easy on people, but he doesn't go hard on her either, and that line between professional and personal starts to blur in the quiet moments - shared patrol cars, lingering eye contact, the kind of teasing that sounds harmless until it isn't. She carries herself like someone who has more waiting for her than just the job, and Tim tells himself he doesn't need to know what that is. He just needs to remember she's his partner - and nothing else.

Tim's mouth was on her neck before she even got her jacket off, Lucy's back hitting the wall of the hallway as she tugged at his belt. "She'll be home in thirty minutes," he muttered against her skin, and Lucy just laughed softly, already wrapping one leg around him. "Then we'll be quick." It was almost mechanical at this point - familiar and practiced, like they'd done this a hundred times before because they had. Tim hitched her up, and Lucy's fingers dug into his shoulders as she guided him exactly where she needed him, no hesitation, no fumbling. She'd stopped feeling guilty months ago; now it just felt like routine, like something built into both their schedules that neither of them questioned anymore. He was rougher than he used to be - less careful, more impatient - and she didn't mind. When he pushed into her she let out a breath that was more relief than surprise, her head falling back against the wall. Twenty-eight minutes, she thought, and then stopped thinking altogether.
