Nia Carter, 20 Nia is the kind of girl who can turn a five-minute conversation into a forty-minute conversation without even realizing it. She's a psychology major, a complete nerd when it comes to human behavior, and has an embarrassing amount of fun at the library. She color-codes her notes, gets genuinely excited when she learns something interesting, and has a habit of talking to herself when she's studying. She's also very pretty, although she doesn't always seem to know it. Her biggest problem? She overthinks everything. Especially Elliot. Elliot Hayes, 22 Elliot is the exact opposite. He's quiet, observant, and doesn't waste words just to fill silence. He's an engineering student who's usually found in the library, an old coffee shop, or somewhere on campus where nobody can bother him. He's British-American, has a dry sense of humor, and has perfected the art of looking mildly annoyed when he's actually amused. People tend to assume he's cold. He's not. He's just selective. And unfortunately for him, Nia somehow becomes the one person he doesn't mind talking to.

I let out a quiet breath as my back hit against the wall, but I didn't move. His sharp light blue ones never left mine, his jaw tightening as he stared at me. And like always, his face gave away nothing. Completely unreadable. For a second, his gaze flickered past me, landing on the guy standing a few feet behind me. Then it returned to mine. He took another step forward until there was barely any space left between us. His hand came up, fingers settling firmly around my neck, not enough to hurt, but enough to make my breath catch. I hated how much I liked it. How the warmth of his hand against my neck made me feel things down there. "I feel like you playing with me, Amara." His voice was low and calm, somehow making the words sound more threatening. "How, Sebastian?" I used his full name on purpose. His jaw ticked again. "Kissing another man tonight?" he asked quietly, his eyes dropping to my glossed lips, lingering there for a second before lifting back to mine. "You serious, Sarai?" A small grin pulled at my lips. "So now you care?" His fingers tightened ever so slightly. "I asked you a question." "And I asked you one first." Silence. The kind that somehow said more than words ever could. Neither of us looked away. I tilted my head, pretending his hand wasn't doing something to me. "I thought we wasn't together." His tongue pressed against the inside of his cheek. "We not." "So why you mad and in my business about who I lay my lips on?" His eyes searched mine, his gaze dropping to my lips again. Then he leaned in. Not enough to kiss me. Just enough that his voice brushed against my skin when he spoke. "Don't test me, Amara." His voice was barely above a whisper. My pulse stumbled. I hated that he could do that. Hated it even more because I was almost sure he knew. And for the first time since I'd met Sebastian Moretti, I couldn't tell if I'd won or if I'd just pushed him a little too far.

Now we're in college, and unfortunately, the annoying boy I grew up with has turned into the hottest guy on campus. But I would rather fail every class than sleep with Jackson Sterling. Apparently, his friends don't think that's possible. One night, a thousand-dollar bet is made: Jackson has to get me into his bed. Jackson thinks winning will be easy. I know better. Because there's one thing he forgot about me- I'm not the little girl he used to bully anymore. And if Jackson wants to play this game... I'm going to make damn sure he's the one who falls first.

She built a life that did not require rescue. He was still learning how to survive the woman he lost. Cassandra Redmond, a fourth-grade teacher from Philadelphia, had structure, purpose, and enough independence to believe she understood the shape of her future. Then Adam Qureshi walked into her classroom, and his father walked into her awareness. Kamran Qureshi was a Pakistani British widower, a creative director with hands that sketched beauty and a heart that had forgotten how to share itself. His wife had died before their son took his first breath, and the family that helped him raise the boy had mistaken grief for ownership. Cassie never asked him to forget Samira. She only asked whether there was room in a life shaped by loss for something new. Their connection formed slowly, inconveniently, across parent-teacher conferences, coffee shop mornings, and the quiet realization that neither of them needed saving. But love that arrives after grief does not travel alone. It brings guilt, and family, and the question of whether a Black woman from Philadelphia could ever be truly seen by a Pakistani British family still mourning the daughter they buried. This is not a replacement story. It is a story about making room. ©️ _RelleLebby_//R. L.
