Daniel and Cami had once been inseparable. Since middle school, they had shared the same dream-to become journalists. They spent afternoons interviewing each other for fun, pretending to be reporters, and writing stories based on their conversations. Their passion for journalism was what brought them together, and over the years, it became the foundation of a friendship that seemed unbreakable.
Everything changed when they entered tenth grade.
One afternoon, Mr. Tagalicud, the journalism adviser, posted an announcement on the school's official page: there was one final opening on the journalism team. It was the opportunity both Daniel and Cami had been waiting for.
At first, the competition was friendly. They challenged each other to write better articles, score higher in class, and perform their best in school activities. But as the days passed, the rivalry grew more intense. Friendly encouragement turned into silent comparisons. Conversations became arguments. The laughter they once shared was replaced by a determination to outdo one another at every opportunity-not only in journalism, but also in academics, sports, and extracurricular activities.
Neither of them noticed how far they had drifted apart.
Who would have thought that the very dream that brought them together would become the reason they stopped speaking? The passion that had once strengthened their friendship slowly drove a wedge between them.
What was once a bond built on shared ambitions transformed into a rivalry fueled by pride, competition, and the fear of being left behind.
