It seemed there had always been some type of string tying them together - a red fated one during the seventies, an invisible one during the eighties, and a tethered one during most of the nineties. They never actually tied the knot, but knots appeared along the worn-out rope anyway - in the form of deaths, births, and children. Well into the two-thousands, they realized it wasn't a string holding them together; it was a chain.
