In the mountain of Bagacay in the Philippines, there lived a clan with an old, hidden art of communicating with insects. It was an old tradition, an old practice that only a handful in a single generation can perform. Most can only hear the insects' thought and without the ability to understand them. Then comes the birth of Esang who can not only hear and understand the insects' thoughts but also able to convey her thoughts to them. As a result, from a very young age, Esang was already too familiar with the disgusted look her clan mates throws at her. As Esang grew older, she learned how to ignore the discrimination. Instead, she started to spend more time conversing with the insects, giving up all hope that her clan mates will ever fully accept her. That is, until one day, a few days after her 14th birthday, the insects whispered that there is a small man tempting children to follow him. None returned. Out of boredom, she looked into it and it was too late when she realized it was too much than what she bargained for.
