*Harry's POV*
I drive back to the apartment, wondering where Tessa is. I saw her walk out of the building, but I didn't find her afterwards.
As I pull into the apartment building parking lot, I pull out my phone. I dial Tessa's number and wait for her to pick up. The line goes straight to voicemail, so I know her phone is off.
I groan and get out of the car, shutting the door behind me. I swing my keys in my hand, almost dropping them when I walk through the lobby. I push the elevator button, getting in when the doors open.
The elevator music plays softly as I take out my phone again, dialing Jess's number. I listen to the music as the phone rings on the other line. The tune suspiciously sounds like Love Story by Taylor Swift, but I don't know for sure by the time the lift doors open again.
Jess picks up on the fifth ring, just before the line cuts to voicemail. "Hello?" she says.
"Do you know where Tessa went?" I ask, walking down the hall with my keys in hand. I open the door to my flat, chucking my shoes to the side. I don't bother to turn on the lights.
"Well, hello to you too, Harry," she teases from the other line. I roll my eyes even though she can't see. "No, I don't know where she went, sorry."
"Thanks anyway," I tell her, moving my finger over the end button. I sit down on the couch, my knees spread apart at shoulder-width.
"Before you hang up," Jess calls out. "I was wondering if you'd want to come swim at the hotel with me before I leave tomorrow?"
Even though Jess basically spent her time in our apartment, I insisted that she take a hotel room. We don't really have a guest bedroom, and I'm not letting her sleep on the couch. Besides, I'd like some alone time with Tessa on nights.
"Um," I ponder over the question, wondering if that would be a good idea. "I'll have to get back to you on that one."
"Okay. Well, I'll talk to you tomorrow. Get some sleep, Harry. We've all had a trying day." I snicker at my sister, noting how she always seems to act like the older child in any given situation: bossy.
I clear my voice. "I'll do what I want."
Jess's laugh rings through the phone. "Goodnight, Harry."
"G'night, Jess."
The static stops once she hangs up, and I sit in the dead silence of my apartment. I wonder where Tessa is?
My palms get sweaty at the thought of her being hurt. Dan couldn't possibly escape from the police a second time, could he? Maybe he's better than I thought.
I dial someone else's number, who picks up on the first ring. "Hi." Bo greets.
I gulp down the lump in my throat, thinking it's not a good idea to ask Bo where Tessa is. I do it anyway. "Do you know where Tessa went after the police arrested Dan?" I whisper.
"I don't care about Tessa," Bo replies. I can hear the edge to her voice.
"I know you, Bo," I chuckle. "Even if you dislike her, you don't hate her. I know you feel bad for being the side chick."
There's only silence on the other line, indicating that I got her right. "Do you know?" I ask again, leaning back against the couch.
"I think I saw Zayn carry her to his car," she says quietly.
Confusion spreads across my face. Was Tessa hurt? "Why?"
"I don't know, that's just what I saw."
"Okay. Bye." I hang up the phone, getting annoyed at the lack of information.
I dial one last number: Zayn's. The phone rings twice before it's sent to voicemail, and I know the shit did it on purpose. He saw I was calling. I try calling him again, but the same thing happens.
I have a pretty good idea where Tessa is, but I feel like there's nothing I can do about it. Even if I beat the shit out of Zayn, Tessa still will stay at his house to aid him instead of come home with me.
I groan and fall on my back on the couch. My head hits the cushion and I realize how tired I am. My eyes close shut.
I want Tessa to love me, not take Zayn over me. I know I fucked up by kissing Bo and seeing her. I know she'll probably be really mad at me for that. But I just want Tessa right now.
I want Tessa forever.
I take out the tiny box in my pocket, opening my eyes and looking at the ring inside. Jess helped me pick it out for her, since I didn't know what girls liked for this stuff. I must admit, she has really good taste in finger jewelry. The diamond shines in the little light coming from the window.
I remember being interrupted in the middle of my proposal, and I close the lid. I throw the box across the room, sinking my head into the couch cushion. I'll probably never get the chance to propose to Tessa again.
With my mind filled with heavy thoughts, I fall into a troublesome sleep. I almost forget that I'm on a couch, but I don't really care at this point. It's dark, and I'm tired.
