Wow... I've watched the new Gaming Historian video of the history of tetris, and it was amazing!!! Like I knew a bit of the history form DidYouKnowGaming, but not in specific detail! I love it!
You guys might know this, but I am a fan of the Angry Video Game Nerd, since he finds a new way to curse at a horrible game.
Still think that Doki Doki Literature Club is a horrible game? (Though it isn't) Compare to Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde for the NES!!! Really an abomination. Want more? How about SUPERMAN 64??? OR LJN GAMES LIKE X-MEN, NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, OR FRIDAY THE 13TH!!!
How the unlicensed carts; the Quattro multicart, or Action 52, or maybe LITTLE RED HOOD?!??!
I mainly play Platformers and Shoot em' ups. Fighting and rhythm as well, but it diminished overtime.
My favorite retro platformer has to be Mega Man 2. In fact, Mega Man is one of my favorite franchises ever. Others include Touhou, Mario, Metal Gear, and Castlevania.
I really love Aria of Sorrow. It's basically the perfect handheld version of Symphony of the Night. Symphony of the Night's ost is excellent as well (DAT CASTLE CORRIDOR THEME)
I also played Hong Kong 97.
Ok, here's a challenge. Name all the home consoles (not portable) that you can think of, and try to surpass my knowledge of consoles:
1. NES/Famicom
2. Genesis/Megadrive
3. Sega Saturn
4. SNES/Super Famicom
5. Casio Loopy
6. PC-FX
7. TurboGrafx16/PC Engine
8. Nintendo Switch
9. Steam Machine (Technically not, but it's more of a placeholder)
10. Wii U
11. Wii
12. Gamecube
13. Atari Jaguar
14. Dreamcast
15. Sega SG-1000
16. Sega Master System/Sega Mark III
17. SuperGrafx
18. FM Towns Marty
19. 3DO
20. Commodore 64
21. Nintendo 64
22. Amiga CD-32
23. Atari Jaguar
24. Atari 2600
25. Atari 5200
26. Atari 7800
27. Sony PlayStation
28. PlayStation 2
29. PlayStation 3
30. PlayStation 4
31. Xbox
32. Xbox 360
33. Xbox One
34. Ouya (sadly...)
35. Phillips CD-I
36. Sony PSX (the DVR PS2)
37. Panasonic Q (The Gamecube with a DVD player attached to it)
38. Mattel Hyperscan
39. Bandai Playdia
40. Magnavox Odyssey
41. Magnavox Odyssey 2
42. ColecoVision
43. Intellivision
44. Apple Pippin (yes, APPLE MADE THEIR OWN CONSOLE)
so yeh. 43 consoles.
That's pretty much all of them.
I guess I know them in my head.
Or you may disprove me that I looked into wikipedia.
Well what if I told you that the Famicom had a floppy disk add, called the Famicom Disk System? Or that Nintendo and Sony were teaming up together to form a CD-ROM add on for the SNES, but it later became the PlayStation's incarnation. How about the fact that there are cancelled consoles like the Atari Cosmos and the Phantom. There was also the Atari Panther and Sega Neptune as well.
Don't forget about the CPS and Sega NAOMI arcade systems as well!
oh yeah, Magnavox Odyssey was beat Pong by months.
And the Wonder Wizard shares the same hardware, shell included as the Odyssey.
One more video game fact.
Mario was actually going to be called Mr. Video. Not Jumpman, but Mr. Video. Also the Famicom was released in Japan in 1983, two years before it was released in the west.
