Those words halted her in her tracks, compelling her, at last, to turn and face him with a deliberate, slow pivot.

He appeared nervous, an unusual sight for him. The sun dipped below the horizon, casting the room into a twilight that veiled much of his expression. Yet, his unease was unmistakably visible to her.

"What?" she questioned, her voice tinged with disbelief, uncertain if she had heard correctly.
