Preface

Rainier Makeling has always lived a sheltered life as the leader of the country's daughter, spending time with her siblings in the shaded trees by her house. That is, until she finds herself with the ability to control water, a powerful ability that is strong for even the Makelings, who have all kinds of powers. Because of her ability, her mother is forced to hand the power of leadership down to Rainier. Meanwhile, her mother's twin brother, Loren Makeling, forgotten and pushed away, fumes and leaps at the chance to get the leadership that was taken away from him as a child. Only one thing is needed for him to become leader: Rainier's death. Rainier soon finds herself fleeing the only place she has ever called home.
