An outcast on their home planet of Lyak III, Ouya Kahera seeks refuge by exchanging letters with Opi Swe Yani, an Ilseri from the planet Ilserann. Ouya quickly develops feelings for the alien, but they know that they can never be together. Lyak III's atmosphere is toxic to Yani, while Ilserann's sulphurous skies would suffocate Ouya before they could even reach the surface.

They keep writing anyway. Ouya's always had a tendency to want impossible things.
