"God, Nicole, why won't you just talk to me?" he asked, moving close enough to me that I could feel his breath warming my face.

I looked down at my feet before replying, "It's just not that easy, okay?".

"Fine, Nicole," he sighed tiredly. "I'm done." With that, he turned on his heel, walking away from me.

"Dean, wait!" I cried to his retreating back.
